BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF THE SCHOOL

St. Theresa’s secondary school is located in Sikhendu location, Sikhendu sub-location, Kiminini Division, Trans-Nzoia County and Rift-valley Province. It is approximately 32 from Kitale town. The school is along Kitale-Webuye Highway about 200 meters from main 

St. Theresa’s secondary school was started in the year 1997 by the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Sikhendu.  At that time there were only two schools around namely, Maliki mixed secondary school and Kabuyefwe mixed secondary school.  The two schools were too far for the students residing in Sikhendu sub-location. The school a mixed single streamed class in 1997. In 1998, the two streams were established with more  students.

The school had only four classes (form 1, 2, 3, 4) but at the moment it has got eight classrooms, one laboratory, an administration block and departmental offices. It has no staff houses but it has a well established modern ICT room with internet connectivity,14 employed teachers by the Teachers service commission and four teachers employed by the board . The school has eleven non-teaching staff.

In terms of performance, the school is an average performing school but on an upward trend. The following is a summary of the school KCSE perfomance from 2000 to 2015.

The population of the school has steadily gone up maintaining 328 students at least 179 Boys and149 girls.

In 2010, the school was given the most disciplined school award in Trans-Nzoia west District during the District Education award ceremony

            ACTIVITIES IN THE SCHOOL

The school has well-outlined co-curricular activities which include games, clubs and societies. The school in this year’s ball games, that is, football, volleyball and handball proceeded to the regional levels.

The clubs in the school are science, mathematics, debating, journalism, scouting and drama. Scouting club represented the school in this years’ scouts’ camp in Busia.

The societies which are recognized and are active are the Young Christian Association (Y C S) and the Christian Union (C U) .These societies are given the mandate to practice their religious faith absolutely.

      RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

 The school, during Madaraka day, organizes students to clean up Sikhendu Market as part of its community social responsibility. On several occasions, herds of cattle from the community are allowed into the school to graze on the compound.
